Paul

Paul lives with his girlfriend and two young children. Paul talks about his life leading up to losing his virginity on his 20th birthday and subsequently discovering that he had contracted HIV from the same girl. Being given a life expectancy of 1 – 10 years Paul talks about keeping his diagnosis a secret from his family and friend’s whilst trying make as much of his remaining time.

He talks about his work career, marriage, divorce and then navigating new relationships with the added burden of a highly feared health condition.

Paul’s story covers a wide range of topics as he covers over 20 years of living with HIV. This includes disclosure, discrimination, living with an acquired brain injury and the positive effects he sees the illness providing him.

Paul currently volunteers for a major HIV charity and delivers sexual health presentations at schools across the South of England.
